Lab Head Synthesis - Asia Pacific
Job Description
You will work closely with the Asian and European business development managers, the global
synthesis community (mainly Leverkusen/ Germany), the production and product management teams in
Asia Pacific and the customers of Bayer MaterialScience.
Major tasks and responsibilities:
- Lead and organize a synthesis lab within Business Development Coatings, Adhesives and
Specialties, Asia Pacific. Lab team will consist of 2 – 4 team members in final stage.
- Participate in development projects together with Asian application labs, global R&D
resources and peers in production and technology units.
- Support scale up of newly developed products together with production and product management in
Asia Pacific.
- Analyze competitive environment, market trends and university landscape, focusing on Bayer
MaterialScience’s needs to develop new products and technologies.
- Identify potential for innovation and new projects with universities and other partners to
drive the development of modern solutions.
- Screen global and, in particular, Asian patent landscape and industry publications. Contribute
to Bayer MaterialScience’s intellectual property by filing new patent applications and defending
existing patents.
- Build internal network within global organization of Bayer MaterialScience to fully utilize the
company’s resources.
- Give presentations and make contributions to international industry congresses and industry
magazines.
Your qualifications
You are required to possess the following:
- PhD in Chemistry or related, synthetic Organic or Polymer Chemistry preferred.
- Experience in coatings raw material development and/ or aqueous dispersions and/ or isocyanate
chemistry a strong plus.
- Creativity and ability to translate customer requirements into chemistry.
- Very good oral and written communication skills in English. Chinese, German and Japanese a
plus.
- Team player and good interpersonal skills.
- Experience as team leader a strong plus.
- Willing to take added responsibility and work under pressure.
- International mobility required, training in Germany for > 1 year foreseen, final position
will be in Shanghai/ China.
