As the world´s second largest economy, Japan is very important for Bayer’s success in Asia,
accounting for about 30 percent of Group sales in the region. As one of the major global players in
the Japanese market, Bayer is present at several locations with research, production and sales
facilities. Whereas Bayer Yahukin Ltd. (HealthCare) is 60% of the annual sales of the Bayer Group,
the subgroups CropScience and MaterialScience have a roughly equal share of sales. With its crop
science research center, Japan also forms an important part of the Bayer Group’s international
research network. Imidacloprid, the active ingredient widely used in insecticides, was invented by
researchers in Japan.
The Bayer Group in Japan has a total of 3251 employees (31st December 2007).
