Bayer House Osaka Recognized as One of Japan’s Best Workplaces
Osaka, September 2009. Bayer House Osaka (BHO) has been
recognized as one of Japan’s most stimulating, functional and environmentally friendly workplaces,
receiving the New Office Promotion Award at the 22nd Nikkei New Office Awards. Presented by Nikkei
Inc and the New Office Promotion Association (NOPA), the awards are bestowed on offices that
feature creative, innovative designs, with the aim of promoting broader development of similar
offices in Japan.
Nikkei New Office Awards
Commenting on this achievement, Dr. Michael Portoff, Senior Bayer Representative for Japan, said, “
It’s a great honor for us that Bayer House Osaka, one of our two core offices in Japan, received
the New Office Promotion Award. In addition to symbolizing the completion of Bayer in Japan’s
organizational realignment, BHO immensely benefits Bayer in Japan because it concentrates our major
Kansai offices in one location, and thus enhances group synergy and efficiency, while ensuring
better internal communication.”
Criteria for selection of the winners included aesthetics, comfort, functionality,
environmental friendliness, and creativity. The main focus of the design and planning of BHO was to
create an environment conducive to smooth inter-unit communication, with the intention of
facilitating the integration of Bayer Yakuhin and Nihon Schering. BHO therefore incorporates
innovative features in various aspects of its design, including employee traffic flow, advanced
information technology, meeting spaces centrally located on each floor as part of a unified
concept, and the selection and arrangement of office furniture.
BHO is Bayer in Japan’s main center of operations for the Kansai region, which includes the
prefectures Osaka, Kyoto, and Nara. BHO is currently home to the headquarters of Bayer Yakuhin,
Intendis K.K, Nihon Medrad K.K., and Sumika Bayer Urethane Co., Ltd., as well as the Kansai offices
of Bayer Holding Ltd., Bayer CropScience K.K. and Bayer MaterialScience Ltd.
