Michael Koenig Honored by Shanghai Municipal Government
Shanghai, October 2011. Michael Koenig, Global Head of the
Business Unit Polycarbonates of Bayer MaterialSicence (BMS), has recently been honored with the
Magnolia Gold Award at a ceremony at Shanghai City Hall. Mayor Han Zheng presented the awards to
all 12 award winners on behalf of the Shanghai Municipal Government.
Capital Expenditures of EUR 1 Billion
The Magnolia Award, named after the Shanghai’s municipal flower, is issued annually by the Shanghai Municipal Government to recognize the overseas residents who have made great contributions to city’s development.
There are 2 levels of Magnolia Award, Silver and Gold. The Gold Award is regarded as the city’s top honor for expatriates. Since the Magnolia Award was first presented in 1993, only 247 foreigners have received the Gold Award.
Koenig joined Bayer in 1990 and transferred to Shanghai in 2000 for his first China assignment as General Manager for Bayer Polymers (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. He then assumed the role of Site Manager of the Bayer Integrated Site Shanghai. After several years’ assignment in Germany, Koenig moved back to China again and was appointed Senior Bayer Representative for Greater China as well as the Senior Country Representative of BMS China. On July 1st, 2011, Koenig took over his new responsibility as head of the BU Polycarbonates of BMS, which relocated its headquarters to Shanghai. During the past decade, Koenig has driven the fast growth of Bayer China and has witnessed Bayer’s tremendous contribution to Shanghai and China’s development.
China will continue become one of the most important markets for Bayer. By honoring Bayer’s Senior Executives, the Shanghai Municipal Government recognizes the company and its employees’ commitment to the city.
